Volunteers Needed - Midwest Food Bank
Hello fellow CPCUs,
We have the opportunity to assist our local food bank from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on May 13, 2015. The Midwest Food Bank, which was recently awarded a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, makes a huge difference in the lives of the more than 225,000 persons that they serve each month. They are located just across the street at 1703 South Veterans Parkway. This early email is needed so we can inform the food bank if we have enough volunteers, from our group alone, to cover this date.
Our activities will probably include re-packaging and/or labelling food items. Some volunteers will be able to sit, others may need to stand for most of our two hour commitment. Most people will not need to lift boxes or any significant weight. They will match our activity to the ability of our volunteers. Because volunteers are working in a warehouse environment, no open toed shoes are allowed, i.e. no sandals or flip-flops. Tennis shoes are fine. You may be working with food that requires the wearing of gloves and/or hairnets.
Your spouse and/or family may come with you. However, volunteers must be at least 14 years old. They do have a nursery/preschool area available for small children, but parents would be responsible for providing any necessary supervision of the play area.
Each volunteer will need to sign a Volunteer Agreement which I will forward to those who respond. If we complete these before we arrive, it will save us time on the day of the event. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have the form signed by their parent/guardian.
Please let me know by February 9th if you can join us (please specify if you are bringing anyone with you), or if you have any questions. Thank you.
